DETAILED ITINERARY OF 6 DAYS QUEEN ELIZABETH AND MURCHISON FALLS SAFARI

Day 1: Pickup from Kampala or Entebbe – Drive to Murchison Falls National Park

On the first day of your safari, you will be picked from your hotel either in Entebbe or in Kampala by your safari driver-guide after breakfast then start the journey to Murchison Falls national park. On your way you will watching the city and the Uganda countryside observing the rural people going on with your daily life, you will pass through the several small towns such as Luwero and Nakasogola district where you will see a lot of long horned Ankole cattle by the road side and stopover at the market to buy some fresh fruits.

 You will have a stopover at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for a white rhino tracking experience, the sanctuary protects the last remaining population of rhinos in Uganda and on the tracking you will encounter the rhinos in their natural habitat.  You will also have lunch and proceed to Murchison Falls national park, on your arrival you will head to the top of the Murchison Falls where you will watch River Nile squeezing as it squeezes through a narrow gorge before plunging itself into several hard rocks to make a dramatic fall forming the falls. In the evening you will head back to your lodge, have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 2: morning game drive in the morning and Boat cruise on the river Nile

Have early breakfast and head to the park for a morning game drive done close to the banks of river Nile, on the game drive you will spot many animals such as antelopes, lions, elephants, cape buffaloes, warthogs, jackals, Oribi, giraffes, hyenas, the Uganda Kob and leopards. You will also spot nocturnal animals such as leopards, lions and hyenas as they return to their dens from hunting, after the game drive you will head back to your lodge for lunch and in the afternoon return to the park for an afternoon boat cruise. On the boat cruise you will sail upstream to the bottom of the Murchison Falls close to the Devils Cauldron, boat cruise offers a chance to spot many animals in the water of river Nile and its banks. Animals to lookout for include elephants, Uganda Kobs, waterbucks, countless other antelopes and water birds such as elusive shoebill stork, Goliath heron, Pelicans, bee-eaters, Egyptian geese, kingfishers, cormorants and hornbills among others. Return to your lodge, have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 3: Full day Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park 

Have breakfast at your leisure, checkout after meeting your safari driver and start on your journey to Queen Elizabeth national park, on your way you will enjoy have excellent photo opportunities and scenic views of the country side of the beautiful western Uganda. You will have en-route lunch and when you arrive in the park, you will check into your lodge, have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 4: Game drive and Boat cruise at the Kazinga Channel

Wake up early for a cup of coffee and head to the park for an early morning game drive in the Kasenyi plains, early morning game drive offer an opportunity to spot early risers and predators such as herds of elephants, hyenas, leopards, lions and various species of antelopes. You will also spot many birds such as falcons, eagles, raptors, Black-bee eaters and species of Kingfishers.

 After the morning game drive you will head back to your lodge for late breakfast and have lunch, in the afternoon you will go for a boat cruise at the Kazinga channel connecting Lake George to Lake Edward. Boat cruise is an incredible safari experience for birding and wildlife viewing, some of the birds you will see include Marabou stork, the bronze-tailed starling, crowned cranes and fish eagles. Animals you will see include schools of rhinos, Nile crocodiles, herds of elephants and buffaloes bathing and drinking water. After the full day of adventure you will head back to your lodge, have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 5: Chimpanzee trekking in Kyambura Gorge 

Wake up early for breakfast and head to Kyambura Gorge for chimpanzee trekking, Kyambura Gorge is an underground forest hosting a wide variety of birds and primates including chimpanzees living in the forests. You will converge at the starting point where you will be briefed about the experience and head into the forests looking for chimpanzees, during your trek through the forests you will spot other primates such as vervet monkeys, colobus monkeys, olive baboons, hippos and elephants at Kyambura river and many birds such as herons, secretary birds, grey crested crown among others.

You will spend the full day in Kyambura gorge with picnic lunch and in the evening you will head back to your lodge, have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 6: Tree Climbing Lions of Ishasha and transfer Back to Kampala

After early breakfast you will head to the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth national park for a game drive on which you will spot tree climbing lions as they hunt and on the branches of acacia trees. After the game drive you will exit the park and set off on a journey back to Kampala or Entebbe for a drop off either at the hotel or at Entebbe International airport for your flight back home.
