DETAILED ITINERARY OF 5 DAYS UGANDA WILDLIFE SAFARI

Day 1: Pickup and Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

You will be picked from your hotel in Kampala after breakfast by your safari guide to start your 5 days Uganda wildlife safari, your guide will give you a short safari briefing and start your 6 hours journey to Queen Elizabeth national park located in western Uganda. On your way you have a stopover at the Equator landmark for pictures and lunch in Mbarara, on your way you will enjoy sights of the locals going on with their daily life, the amazing Ankole cattle and the hilly country landscape including the Rwenzori Mountains as you proceed to the park.

Arrive in the park in evening then go for an evening game drive watching a number of animals such as lions, rhinos, leopards, hyenas and among others which are more active in the night. After the experience you will head back to your lodge, have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 2: Game drive and boat cruise

As early as 06:00 hours, you have a cup of coffee and with packed breakfast you will go for an early morning game drive spotting early risers and nocturnal mammals and predators such as lions, leopards, hyenas, rhinos, antelopes, buffaloes and various bird species such as herons, secretary birds as you drive through the Kasenyi and Mweya plains. After the game drive you will return to the lodge for lunch and in the afternoon you will go for a boat cruise of about 2-3 hours on Kazinga channel, the channel boosts a variety of bird species such as herons, secretary birds, shoe bills which you will enjoy watching. You will also spot crocodiles, elephants, buffaloes and hippos bathing in the waters, in the afternoon you will head back to your lodge, have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 3: Game drive in Ishasha to see tree climbing lions – Transfer to Bwindi national park

Have breakfast at your lodge and head to the Ishasha sector of the park for a game drive on which you will spot the tree climbing lions, the park hosts the largest population of tree climbing lions in the world with others found in Tanzania and South Africa.  During the game drive you will spot the lions resting on branches of acacia and fig trees, after the game drive you will set off on a drive to Bwindi Impenetrable national park in the South Western Uganda. On your way you will have en-route lunch, arrive in the park in evening, check into your lodge, relax as you wait for dinner and stay overnight.

Day 4: Mountain gorilla trekking experience and Visit the Batwa Pygmies

After breakfast, you will head to the park for a briefing experience starting at exactly 07:00 am at the park’s headquarters, the briefing is conducted by a ranger guide and in this session you will be taken through the rules and regulations to follow during this experience and in the presence of the gorillas and what to expect. You will be assigned a gorilla group to trek among the 15 habituated gorilla families in forests of Bwindi, hire a porter to assist you then hike into the jungle looking for mountain gorillas. Tracking for mountain gorillas can be challenging but very rewarding, as you trek through the forests you will have an opportunity to spot forest creatures such as monkeys, chimpanzees, birds and butterflies.

When you encounter the gorillas you are allowed to stay in their presence for 1 hour of observing behaviors, how they interact with each, nature their young ones and take amazing pictures. After the experience you will head back to your lodge, you will you still have energy and what more adventure you will head to the batwa community for a cultural visit.  In the batwa community you will learn more about the their life style, traditions and norms through participating in various activities such as demonstration of hunting skills, building of houses using local materials, visit the local herbalists, be entertained by local dances and songs among others. In the evening you will head back to your lodge, have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 5: Transfer back to Kampala for departure

After breakfast, checkout and embark on a journey back to Kampala on a drive of 8 hours, on your way you will have a stopover in Mbarara for lunch and visit the Igongo Cultural center and Equator crossing for pictures. When you arrive in Kampala you will be dropped off either at your hotel or at the airport for your departure flight back home.
